Patent classification processing data maps
Processing for 'Enter patent classification code → Search patent set'
Problem situation
In the CPC hierarchy, directly under the example CPC H01M4/0438 with 3 dot subgroup depth, there are H01M4/044, H01M4/045, H01M4/0459, H01M4/0464, and H01M4/0469 with 4 dot subgroup depth. Each of these has several patent classifications with lower 5 dot subgroup depths.
When you enter H01M4/0438 as a search term for a patent classification code, by the very nature of the patent classification hierarchy, you should get patents with all the patent classifications lower than yours (H01M4/0438), including your own (H01M4/044 through H01M4/0469), and all 14 patent classifications higher than yours (H01M4/0438 + H01M4/044 through H01M4/0469). For reference, the examiners of the Intellectual Property Office assign a given patent the patent classification that is as far as possible at the end node of the patent classification hierarchy, i.e., a patent assigned H01M4/0442 will automatically have the attributes of H01M4/044 and H01M4/0438, which are upper than itself (H01M4/0442) in the hierarchy, due to the nature of the hierarchy.
In this case, due to the nature of a search engine that searches for an entered expression, even if you search using a search extension such as H01M4/0438*, it will not search for H01M4/044, etc. that does not begin with H01M4/0438.
Processing for resolve situation
To implement a search that automatically includes lower patent classifications as above, you need to process a mapping data scheme such as "H01M4/0438 vs. H01M4/0438 + H01M4/044 ~ H01M4/0469.
Example of a problem-resolved service
PatentPia Search supports selecting the option 'Automatically include lower patent classifications'. If you select this option,
Step 1 : Automatically retrieve all lower patent classifications (H01M4/044 to H01M4/0469') processed for the patent classification (H01M4/0438) entered as search term,
Step 2 : Automatically change search criteria to 'entered patent classification' or ' all lower patent classifications ('H01M4/0438 + H01M4/044 to H01M4/0469)' for the search term,
Step 3: Generate search results based on the automatically changed search criteria
search results are provided.
Processing for ‘Complex search text input → patent classification title search’
Problem situation
If a user enters "electrochemical coating solution" as a search term to find a specific CPC, H01M4/0452 should be found due to the nature of the patent classification hierarchy and the purpose of the search. However, H01M4/0452 is not found because it does not contain the expression "electrochemical coating", and H01M4/045 is not found because it does not contain "solution".
Processing for resolve situation
Even if you enter a specific (=long) search term as above, in order for the specific patent classification CPC for your purpose to be found, you need to map "H01M4/0452 vs. 'electrochemical coating; Electrochemical impregnation | from solutions'.
Example of a problem-resolved service
In the example below, H01M4/0452 appears as a CPC search result when "electrochemical coating solution" is entered as a search term.
'Original patent classification title → Patent classification title’ processing
Problem situation
The official title of CPC H01M4/0452 is 'from solutions'. For many CPC titles, the original title is often not enough to provide context.
Processing for resolve situation
In cases like this, where the original title is too short to provide context, inheriting the title for the upper patent classification provides context. The official title of PC H01M4/0452 is 'from solutions', but the title of the upper patent classification, '[Electrochemical coating;Electrochemical impregnation]', is inherited and modified to '[Electrochemical coating; Electrochemical impregnation]from solutions' for context.
Example of a problem-resolved service
In the example below, you can see that the title for CPC H01M4/0452 is displayed as '[Electrochemical coating; Electrochemical impregnation]from solutions'.
Processing for 'Patent classification code → Multidimensional analysis of corresponding patentset'
For each patent classification code, there are two ways to correspond the patent set containing the patent classification: i) track 1 method, which corresponds based on the main classification, and ii) track 2 method, which corresponds to all ranges including sub classifications.
PatentPia GoldenCompass adopts the track 2 method. Of course, among CPC codes, Y section codes and /2000 codes are only used for sub-patent classification, so these CPC codes adopt track 2.
The example below shows the analysis contents of PatentPia GoldenCompass for CPC H01M10/54 (Reclaiming serviceable parts of waste accumulators).
