Strategic behavior contents scheme
GoldenCompass provides contents about the target company or the strategic behavior of the target company in a specific field.
Kinds of strategic behavior
Strategic behavior are mainly represented by events; therefore, analysis of a company centered on strategic behavior includes analysis of i) the behavior (=event) itself, ii) the patents used in the behavior (event), and iii) the counterparties of the behavior, if any.
Strategic behavior themselves have analysis contents of behavior related to strategic behavior under the "Events" main menu → Events (Strategic behavior) kind submenu.
Patents used in strategic behavior (events) have analysis contents of patents related to strategic behavior by kind of strategic behavior (events) under the "Patents" large menu → "Patents involved in events" submenu
For the counterparty of the behavior, there are analysis contents of companies related to strategic behavior by kind of strategic behavior (events) under "Related companies" menu → "Financial-litigation-transaction events" submenu.
Patent transactions behavior
Patent transactions itself
Patent transactions behavior include i) patent purchases, ii) patent transfers through M&A, and iii) strategic reallocation/realignment of patents within a group of companies.
Patent transfer through M&A is particularly important. An M&A is essentially the taking of stock (management control) of a defendant company, which means that IP often remains with the defendant company when an M&A occurs; however, the transferred IP from the defendant company to the acquirer is often an asset that the acquirer (usually a market leader) has a high strategic need for, especially if the IP is heavily self-forward cited or heavily cited by backward IP held by companies competing with the acquirer.
In cases where there is a strategic realignment/re-alignment between a group of companies, it is useful to view the realigned/re-aligned IP from an aggregate view, rather than in terms of individual IP.
Patents related to patent transactions = transacted (purchased) patents
Counterparties in patent transactions
Conduct of patent litigation
Important strategic litigation behavior are i) filing a lawsuit, and ii) filing a petition for trial.
GoldenCompass includes an analysis of i) the filing and trial behavior (=events) themselves, ii) the patents used in the filing and trial behavior (=events), and iii) the opponents of the behavior, if any, as a plaintiff in the filing and trial behavior.
Finance behavior
Important strategic finance behavior are i) M&A, ii) investments.
GoldenCompass includes an analysis of the counterparties of the behavior, if there are counterparties: i) the M&A and investment behavior (=events) themselves, ii) the patents of the M&Aed companies (=the companies whose own (input/selected items) were M&Aed) and the invested companies, and iii) the counterparties of the behavior (=the companies whose own (input/selected items) were M&Aed) and the invested companies.
Standard-essential patent activity
Standard patent activity include only standard-essential patents.
FDA approvals activity
FDA approvals activity includes an analysis of i) FDA approvals (=events) themselves, ii) patents related to FDA approvals (events).
National government-funded R&D activity
The patent activity related to government-funded R&Ds only has patents of national R&D achievements.
Strategic behavior related services
Strategic behavior analysis contents service
GoldenCompass provides strategic behavior analysis contents services based on a company or a specific field of a company. Strategic behavior analysis contents include i) the strategic behavior (=events) themselves, ii) the patents used in the strategic behavior (events), and iii) analysis contents on the other party of the strategic behavior, if any.
Strategic behavior monitoring/alert service
Real-time awareness of strategic behavior is very important from a competitive intelligence view. However, strategic behavior are charbehaviorerized as events, which have low predictability and scarcity; therefore, real-time awareness of strategic behavior requires a special approach.
Problems due to the nature of strategic behavior
Strategic behavior are inherently valuable but scarce. In particular, strategic behavior such as transactions/litigations/trials/standard-essential patents/FDA approvals/M&A/investments, etc. have extremely low predictability. Therefore, periodically searching for these low-predictability targets (encountering "search result 0") is not efficient for the time cost invested. In other words, periodically sensing with Search is not recommended unless there are special circumstances (I feel lucky, professional/specialized/service sensing, etc.).
How to solve the problem of real-time strategic behavioral awareness
1.
register interest & address via alert mailing through My portfolio
Sensing for sparse audiences with low predictability is recommended to be solved by registering interests & alert mailing through My portfolio. My portfolio's Alert Service works as follows
•
STEP 1 : Recognize issued interested items by users
•
step 2 : Performs search (=recognition) with registered interested items
•
step 3 : if there are search results, generate alert mailing contents
•
step 4 : send alert mailing contents to users
process performs.
2.
On the other hand, users who received the ALERT MAILING contents by mail can
•
STEP 1 : Select valuable alerts among the alert results in the mail
•
STEP 2 : Acquire search(=cognition) result contents for issued interested items
for registered interests.
This means that users only spend their time on valuable search (=cognitive) results.
For more information related to alert mailing, please refer to the "Important events alert mailing" page(*coming soon).
Exploratory strategic behavioral awareness at GoldenCompass
Exploratory strategic behavior awareness refers to the way you discover valuable strategic behavior contents while browsing/exploring GoldenCompass, rather than approaching GoldenCompass for the purpose of real-time awareness of strategic behavior. For example, you might be browsing analysis contents for "Apple" and discover Apple's recent behavior as a plaintiff.
Periodically, you can use GoldenCompass to explore companies or fields of companies you are interested in, and if there is an issue in the news, you can search for items related to the issue in GoldenCompass and explore analysis contents. In these cases, you may also discover valuable strategic behavior contents.
Recognizing Strategic behavior at Search
Through the PatentPia Search service, you can search for events. By entering special search criteria in Search, you can get search results for high strategic value behavior. For example, in Search → Litigation Search, if you enter "Apple" in the "Plaintiff" field, Search will return a list of recent lawsuits filed by "Apple" as a plaintiff.
We recommend using Search for strategic behavioral awareness in high-volume, professional/occupational, service, or special circumstances.
Delivering strategic behavioral awareness information
Analysis contents related to strategic behavior recognition, search result contents, etc. can be shared/reproduced via URL.
Sensing contents can also be shared through reports in MS Word files.
