GoldenCompass (GC) Search Map

The PatentPia GoldenCompass (GC) search map is shown below.

Kinds of search results (subject/target/purpose)

The kinds of search results provided by the GoldenCompass (GC) search service include: i) companies, ii) fields, iii) keywords, iv) researchers, and v) represented (IP law firms). The fields include i) technology fields, ii) products-parts fields, iii) products-materials fields, iv) patent classifications (CPC/IPC, etc.), and v) concept fields (coming soon). These can be single, but can also be combined, such as a company's keywords.
In the PatentPia scheme, keywords are characterized by the absence of an upper/lower hierarchy. Fields differ from keywords in that they all have a hierarchy.
Equal/equivalent expressions are present in keywords and can also be present in fields.

Search service type - the relationship between the input query and the search results.

Basic types of search

The search service is based on finding things (documents, etc.) that contain the "input search terms" (default track). When you enter a keyword, the search service finds things (e.g., documents) that contain the keyword, or when you enter a company name and a keyword together, the search service finds things that contain the company name and the keyword. In other words, the search results contain the expression of the entered search term. An example of this type is Patent Search, which searches for patents using keywords or company names as search terms.
input
The default service type for search is input, where you enter a search term to generate search results that contain the search term. For example, enter "augmented reality" as a search term.
output
Search results of different kinds (company, classification, keyword, etc.) containing the expression "augmented reality" are generated.

Open search types (coming soon)

Rather than searching for things (documents, etc.) that contain your "input search terms" (the default track), the search service may search for things that meet the intent or purpose of your question. For example, a search service that answers an open-ended question like "What is Apple working on in the field of AI these days?" is an example of open-ended search. In general, natural language searches/queries are often open-ended searches.
input
Search with "augmented reality" as the keyword, no companies/researchers/etc., and "number of total public patents of 50 or more" as the search condition.
output
Companies and researchers are found as search results that match the search condition.
PatentPia recognizes the value and potential of this type of open search and has a roadmap to develop it further.
